HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Walt Jocketty, former General Manager of the St. Louis Cardinals organization, for his many years of dedication to the team; and

WHEREAS, Walt Jocketty was named the Vice President/General Manager of the St. Louis Cardinals on October 14, 1994; in November of 2000 he was promoted to Senior Vice President; he was with the Cardinals until late 2007; he accepted a position as Special Advisor to the Cincinnati Reds in January of 2008; and

WHEREAS, He was named General Manager of the Cincinnati Reds on April 23, 2008; and

WHEREAS, During his time with St. Louis, he saw the team compile seven National League Division Championships, two National League Championships, and one World Series Championship; the Cardinals had seven straight winning seasons during Mr. Jocketty's time with them, including 100 plus winning seasons 2004 and 2005; and

WHEREAS, Walt Jocketty was named the Executive of the Year in Major League Baseball in 2000 and 2004; and

WHEREAS, He was responsible for bringing current Manager Tony LaRussa, home-run sensation Mark McGwire, and current baseball stars Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina, Rick Ankiel, Chris Carpenter, and many others into the organization; and

WHEREAS, Prior to his time with the Cardinals, he worked at different times for both the Colorado Rockies and the Oakland A's; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Walt Jocketty for his time with the St. Louis Cardinals and wish him the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Walt Jocketty as a symbol of our respect.
