HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the musicians of 
4
the Hyde Park Youth Symphony on the 30th anniversary of the 
5
incorporation of the Symphony, February 14, 2008; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, The Symphony is a community-based organization 
7
dedicated to providing an arts experience of the highest 
8
quality to children on the south side of Chicago and nurturing 
9
in them a love for music that will last a lifetime; and

 
10
    WHEREAS, The Symphony serves children and families from a 
11
variety of public, private, and home school programs, and from 
12
diverse racial, ethnic, educational, and economic backgrounds; 
13
and

 
14
    WHEREAS, The Symphony offers opportunities for orchestral 
15
and ensemble playing for students from first grade through high 
16
school; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, The Symphony sponsors an annual concerto 
18
competition to honor the memory of its founder, Claire Despres 
19
Oppenheim, which furthers her desire that the orchestra 
20
challenge the capabilities of serious young musicians and give 
21
them opportunities for solo performance; and

    WHEREAS, The Symphony collaborates with numerous artistic 
2
and cultural programs and institutions to enrich the 
3
experiences of its students and the south side community; and

 
4
    WHEREAS, The Symphony claims a musical staff possessing 
5
great talent and creativity as well as a dedicated and gifted 
6
board of parents and community members; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, The Symphony has been enthusiastically supported 
8
by the residents and institutions of the Hyde Park, Kenwood, 
9
and South Shore communities since its inception; therefore, be 
10
it

 
11
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13
honor the musicians of the Hyde Park Youth Symphony on this 
14
momentous occasion and thank them for their hard work for the 
15
community; and be it further

 
16
    RESOLVED, That, with a fanfare of trumpets, we present a 
17
copy of this resolution to the Hyde Park Youth Symphony on the 
18
occasion of its May 3, 2008 annual benefit and concert.
