HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Stella Ruth 
4
Pettiford on the occasion of her 90th birthday on April 10, 
5
2008; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Stella Ruth Pettiford was born on April 10, 1918 
7
and grew up in Springfield; she later moved to Marion, Indiana, 
8
where she married Theodore Pettiford in 1942; he passed away in 
9
1991; and

 
10
    WHEREAS, Stella Ruth Pettiford lived in Detroit, Michigan, 
11
where she worked as a beautician, as an employee of the 
12
Department of Internal Revenue Service, and as an employee of 
13
the Michigan Employment Security Commission, retiring after 27 
14
½ years of dedicated service; she returned to Springfield in 
15
1997; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, Stella Ruth Pettiford attended Lewis Business 
17
College; and

 
18
    WHEREAS, Stella Ruth Pettiford is a member of the Second 
19
Timothy Baptist Church and sings with the Second Timothy 
20
Baptist Church Mass Choir, the Gloria Harris Ensemble, and the 
21
Women's Choir; she is a member of the Mother's Board and serves

as the President of the Frances F. McCoy Missionary Circle; she 
2
is also a member of the Voices of Love, Joy and Peace, and the 
3
East Side Senior Citizen's Group; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
6
congratulate Stella Ruth Pettiford on the occasion of her 90th 
7
birthday and wish her continued happiness and good health in 
8
the future; and be it further

 
9
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10
presented to Stella Ruth Pettiford as a symbol of our esteem 
11
and respect.
