| WHEREAS, Kelsey Coleman, an esteemed resident of |
| 3 |
| Bloomingdale and a junior at Lake Park High School in Roselle, |
| 4 |
| has achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer |
| 5 |
| service by receiving a 2008 Prudential Spirit of Community |
| 6 |
| Award; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, This prestigious award, presented by Prudential |
| 8 |
| Financial in partnership with the National Association of |
| 9 |
| Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across |
| 10 |
| America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to |
| 11 |
| serving their communities; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Kelsey Coleman earned this award by creating a |
| 13 |
| peer tutoring/interaction program that recruits high school |
| 14 |
| volunteers to tutor and spend time with special-needs students; |
| 15 |
| Kelsey developed her program, Students Teaching and Reaching |
| 16 |
| Students (STARS), when she was in middle school, and has |
| 17 |
| overseen its successful introduction and expansion at her high |
| 18 |
| school; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, The success of the State of Illinois, the strength |
| 20 |
| of our communities, and the overall vitality of American |
| 21 |
| society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young |
| 22 |
| people like Kelsey Coleman who use their considerable talents |
