| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |

| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Peter J. |
| 4 |
| Stanlis of Rockford on the publication of Robert Frost: The |
| 5 |
| Poet As Philosopher in October of 2007; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, The book was published by the Intercollegiate |
| 7 |
| Studies Institute in Wilmington, Delaware and distributed by |
| 8 |
| the University of Chicago Press; it honors twenty-three years |
| 9 |
| of friendship with Robert Frost and fulfills a promise made to |
| 10 |
| the poet by Dr. Stanlis that he would someday write a book |
| 11 |
| about Robert Frost and his art as a poet and philosopher; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, The book captures Robert Frost and his perspective |
| 13 |
| on the cultural heritage of Western and American civilization, |
| 14 |
| showing human creativity and the arts provide the basis of |
| 15 |
| civilization, its education, science, and politics; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Stanlis was the co-founder of the American |
| 17 |
| Society of Eighteenth Century Studies in 1969; he is one of the |
| 18 |
| few Americans honored with an appointment as a British Academy |
| 19 |
| Research Fellow in 1987; he became a member of the Academic |
| 20 |
| Board of the National Humanities Institute in 1987; and he was |
| 21 |
| appointed to the National Endowment for the Humanities by |
| 22 |
| former President Reagan and served from 1982 to 1988; and
