HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that the Theta Mu Lambda Charitable Foundation, a not-for-profit entity of Theta Mu Lambda Chapter - Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, held its 18th Annual Black & Gold Ball on Saturday, November 17, 2007 in Matteson; and

WHEREAS, The Black & Gold Ball is held each year to provide educational resources and raise scholarship funds for young African-American males to expand their scholastic opportunities; and

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha believes in creating resources, leadership skills, and tools for youth to realize their full potential and is dedicated to building a foundation for the educational and personal development of the future leaders of this great nation; and

WHEREAS, The goal of the organization is to increase scholarship initiatives and expand the scope of existing programs to more effectively address the needs of the youth of its community; some of the community services the organization provides include the administration of legislative scholarships for State Representative George Scully, scholarship awards funded by Theta Mu Lambda Charitable Foundation, the "Leaders of Tomorrow" mentorship program, and Project Alpha leadership training, college tours, and many other educational programs; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Theta Mu Lambda Charitable Foundation on the occasion of its 18th Annual Black & Gold Ball, held on Saturday, November 17, 2007, and we honor the organization for its many contributions to the community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Theta Mu Lambda Charitable Foundation as an expression of our respect and esteem.
