HOUSE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Yagnesh Oza on the 
4
occasion of being the recipient of the 2007 Illinois Rural 
5
Physician of Excellence Award; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Dr. Yagnesh Oza was born in Surat, India on 
7
September 23, 1951; he received his M.B.B.S. from the 
8
University of Baroda in Baroda, India in March 1976; he 
9
interned with the Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago from 
10
January 1977 to June 1977, followed by his residency at V.A. 
11
Hines Hospital in Hines from 1977 to 1980 and his fellowship at 
12
V.A. Hines Hospital from 1980 to 1982; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, Dr. Yagnesh Oza worked for the University of 
14
Illinois' Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine in Chicago as an 
15
assistant in medicine from 1979 to 1980 and as an instructor in 
16
medicine from 1979 to 1997; he currently serves as an assistant 
17
clinical professor with the Department of Internal Medicine of 
18
the St. Louis University Health Sciences Center, a position he 
19
has held since January 1995; and

 
20
    WHEREAS, Dr. Yagnesh Oza is board certified with the 
21
American Board of Geriatric Medicine, the American Board of 
22
Medical Oncology, and the American Board of Internal Medicine,

and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Hospice and 
2
Palliative Medicine; he holds memberships with the American 
3
Medical Association, the American Society of Clinical 
4
Oncology, and the Illinois Medical Oncology Society, and is a 
5
Fellow with the American College of Physicians;

he has held 
6
various appointments with the Comprehensive Cancer Center, the 
7
Good Samaritan Hospital, the Hospice of Good Samaritan 
8
Hospital, the American Cancer Society of Jefferson County, the 
9
Jefferson-Hamilton County Medical Society, the American 
10
College of Surgeons Commission, the National Cancer Institute, 
11
and the Southwest Oncology Group; and he has co-authored 4 
12
articles on various diseases and their effects; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, Dr. Yagnesh Oza was awarded a Certificate of Merit 
14
by the Ministry of Education from the Indian government in 
15
recognition of his work; and
 
16
    WHEREAS, Dr. Yagnesh Oza has been an active member in his 
17
community; he sponsored and organized yearly Hospice lectures 
18
for medical professionals associated with the Hospice 
19
programs; he established a call-in radio program for medical 
20
inquiries, which aired from 1989 to 1990; he conducted various 
21
educational seminars for medical professionals and the general 
22
public regarding medical oncology and hematology; and he 
23
sponsored free Thanksgiving dinners for needy people from 1990 
24
to 1997; and

    WHEREAS, Dr. Yagnesh Oza's dedication to the medical 
2
profession and his willingness to serve his community makes him 
3
a model for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be 
4
it
 

5
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
6
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
7
congratulate Dr. Yagnesh Oza for receiving the 2007 Illinois 
8
Rural Physician of Excellence Award and wish him continued 
9
success and happiness in the future; and be it further

 
10
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11
presented to Dr. Yagnesh Oza as a symbol of our esteem and 
12
respect.
