| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to honor Kim Hunter for her work | ||||||
| 4 | with the Douglas County Medical Reserve Corps; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The Douglas County Medical Reserve Corps was | ||||||
| 6 | started in 2003, when Kim Hunter, the Douglas County Health | ||||||
| 7 | Department's health educator, applied for a grant to fund and | ||||||
| 8 | launch the Douglas County MRC; the funding continued until it | ||||||
| 9 | was cut in 2006; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Kim Hunter has served as the grant writer, | ||||||
| 11 | promoter, and recruiter for the Douglas County Medical Reserve | ||||||
| 12 | Corps since its inception; she has been actively involved in | ||||||
| 13 | the grassroots efforts for the recruitment, training, and | ||||||
| 14 | equipping of the MRC's members and has built the MRC from its | ||||||
| 15 | conceptual stages to its current incarnation, an experienced | ||||||
| 16 | organization with over 100 members; the group currently | ||||||
| 17 | provides services such as first aid support for local events, | ||||||
| 18 | immunizations, and school physicals; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Kim Hunter led the Douglas County Medical Reserve | ||||||
| 20 | Corps volunteers during the group's first big venture, the | ||||||
| 21 | Strategic National Stockpile Drill, helping to shape them into | ||||||
| 22 | a professional unit; she also led the charge of dedicated | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Medical Reserve Corps volunteers into the disaster areas of | ||||||
| 2 | Hurricanes Ivan and Frances in 2004 and Hurricanes Katrina and | ||||||
| 3 | Rita in 2005, partnering with such groups as the Red Cross and | ||||||
| 4 | FEMA to provide aid to those affected by those tragic events; | ||||||
| 5 | and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Kim Hunter's reputation for excellence has also | ||||||
| 7 | been noticed by the national Medical Reserve Corps, who invited | ||||||
| 8 | her to speak at their annual conferences in 2004 and 2005; she | ||||||
| 9 | also attends the conferences every year in order to strengthen | ||||||
| 10 | the MRC's resources and contacts; and she has served as the | ||||||
| 11 | Co-Chair of the Illinois Medical Reserve Corps; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Kim Hunter's dedication to her profession and | ||||||
| 13 | willingness to serve her community make her a model for the | ||||||
| 14 | people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 17 | honor Kim Hunter for her work with the Douglas County Medical | ||||||
| 18 | Reserve Corps and wish her continued success and happiness in | ||||||
| 19 | the future; and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to Kim Hunter as an symbol of our esteem and respect.
