HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate 17th Street Bar & Grill owner Mike Mills on the occasion of his barbeque ribs being named best in the nation by both the Food Network and food and entertainment magazine Bon Appetit; and

WHEREAS, Mike Mills is a champion pitmaster and is affectionately known as "The Legend"; he was co-captain of the Apple City Barbecue Team during the early 1990's; his team was named World Champions four times and was the only three-time Grand World Champion at the International Memphis in May Bar B-Q Cook-Off; and he coauthored the book "Peace, Love and Barbecue" with his daughter, Amy Mills Tunnicliffe; and

WHEREAS, Mike Mills has 17th Street Bar & Grill restaurants in Murphysboro, Marion, O'Fallon and Sparta; he has four Memphis Championship Barbecue restaurants in Las Vegas and is the barbecue guru and partner at Blue Smoke Restaurant in New York City; and

WHEREAS, Mike Mills' "top secret weapon" is Mills' Magic Dust, a concoction of 18 different spices which gives his ribs their special and widely loved flavor; and

WHEREAS, Mike Mills inherited his barbecue abilities from his late father, Leon, and his mother, Mama Faye, who still makes her original barbeque sauce recipe one gallon at a time; and

WHEREAS, Mike Mills' legendary barbeque skills are highly deserving of the prestigious designation of "best ribs in the nation"; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate 17th Street Bar & Grill owner Mike Mills on the occasion of his barbeque ribs being named best in the nation and wish him continued success and happiness in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mike Mills as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
