| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |

| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Bill Pierce on the |
| 4 |
| occasion of the unveiling of a life-sized bronze sculpture in |
| 5 |
| his honor by the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Bill Pierce is considered to be one of the great |
| 7 |
| pitchers in Chicago White Sox history; in the 13 years he spent |
| 8 |
| with the White Sox, he won 186 games, struck out 1,796 batters, |
| 9 |
| and was selected to play in the All-Star Game 7 times, starting |
| 10 |
| the game on 3 different occasions; as a member of the 1959 |
| 11 |
| American League Champion White Sox, he threw four scoreless |
| 12 |
| innings out of the bullpen during the World Series; he retired |
| 13 |
| from baseball in 1964, finishing his career with 211 wins, 193 |
| 14 |
| complete games, and 38 shutouts; he is ranked first in |
| 15 |
| strikeouts and fourth in total wins in the team's history; he |
| 16 |
| continues to serve as an ambassador for the White Sox |
| 17 |
| organization, appearing at various community events on its |
| 18 |
| behalf; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Bill Pierce is also known for his continuous work |
| 20 |
| raising money for the Chicago Baseball Cancer Charities, |
| 21 |
| raising millions of dollars for the organization, which have |
| 22 |
| gone toward cancer patient care, education, and research |
| 23 |
| programs; and
