HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the 
4
Northwest Suburban Jewish Congregation on the occasion of the 
5
Congregation's 50th anniversary; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, The Northwest Suburban Jewish Congregation is an 
7
egalitarian conservative congregation and a member of the 
8
Midwest Region United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, 
9
serving the needs of the local and surrounding Jewish 
10
communities; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, In 1957, a group from the Logan Square area in 
12
Chicago decided to form a new synagogue in the northwest 
13
suburbs, led by Rabbi Lawrence Charney; they moved to a 
14
storefront location on Lincoln Avenue in Morton Grove and 
15
eventually moved to their present location at 7800 West Lyons 
16
in Chicago; over the last 49 years, NSJC has developed into one 
17
of the premier conservative synagogues in the Chicagoland area 
18
and a leading supporter of the State of Israel and various 
19
Jewish organizations; and

 
20
    WHEREAS, Over the last 50 years, the Northwest Suburban 
21
Jewish Congregation has offered a complete facility, which 
22
includes the Robbins Sanctuary, Friedman Social Hall, Friedman

Chapel, Kaplan Youth Sanctuary, Factor Youth Lounge, and  the 
2
Bernstein Memorial Alcove; their affiliate organizations, 
3
which include Sisterhood, Men's Club, Energizers, Parent(s) 
4
Couples Club, United Synagogue Youth, Kadima, and their Hebrew 
5
School have provided a wide variety of social, educational, 
6
religious, and cultural events and programs throughout the last 
7
5 decades; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, The Northwest Suburban Jewish Congregation has 
9
planned a long list of programs and activities in honor of this 
10
landmark year; therefore, be it

 
11
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
12
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
13
congratulate the members of the Northwest Suburban Jewish 
14
Congregation on the occasion of the congregation's 50th 
15
anniversary and wish the congregation many more productive 
16
years to come; and be it further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18
presented to a representative of the  Northwest Suburban Jewish 
19
Congregation as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
