HOUSE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Doug Halpenny on 
4
his coaching efforts and contribution to the Elmhurst Stars 
5
baseball and basketball teams; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Doug Halpenny played baseball at Western Illinois 
7
University while working on his undergraduate degree from 1961 
8
to 1965; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, He  coached baseball in Elmhurst, coaching the 
10
Elmhurst Stars during the summers  from 1987 to 1992; and the 
11
Elmhurst Stars basketball team from 1987 through 1991; and

 
12
    WHEREAS, Doug Halpenny can count the following 
13
achievements during his coaching career: in 1987 the Stars 
14
baseball team won the Glenview Little League Tournament and the 
15
national little league tournament in La Crosse, Wisconsin; in 
16
1988 the baseball team won the Melrose Park Baseball 
17
Invitational; in 1989 the baseball team won the Thillens Little 
18
League Tournament; in 1990 the basketball team won the 
19
Chicagoland annual Bulls Tournament; in 1992 the baseball team 
20
were regional champions for the AAU national tournament; and in 
21
2003 Coach Halpenny was inducted into  the National Amateur 
22
Men's Baseball Hall of Fame; and

    WHEREAS, In 1993 Doug Halpenny contributed greatly to the 
2
baseball team that won the High School State Championship game; 
3
therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
5
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
6
congratulate Doug Halpenny on his contribution to the Elmhurst 
7
Stars baseball and basketball teams; and be it further

 
8
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9
presented to Doug Halpenny as a symbol of our respect and 
10
admiration.
