HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the pastor and 
4
congregation of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lena as they 
5
celebrate the church sesquicentennial; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, On March 14, 1857, Reverend George Donmeyer and 
7
Reverend Eli Fair were missionaries who formed two separate 
8
congregations in Lena; Reverend Fair led the Amity Lutheran 
9
Church, an English-speaking congregation, and Reverend 
10
Donmeyer led the German-speaking congregation at Immanuel 
11
Lutheran Church; and

 
12
    WHEREAS, The two congregations built and shared one 
13
building, developing a church schedule that allowed members to 
14
worship at whatever service fit their needs; in 1868 the Amity 
15
congregation purchased the building and the members of Reverend 
16
Donmeyer's congregation moved to a new building; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, In 1966 the two churches merged to form the Good 
18
Shepherd Lutheran Church, celebrating their 40th anniversary 
19
of merging last year; the pastor during the merge, Reverend 
20
Richard Bailey, returned to help the church celebrate the 
21
anniversary; and

    WHEREAS, The current pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran 
2
Church is Reverend Roger Hurlbut; therefore, be it

 
3
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
4
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
5
congratulate the pastor and congregation of Good Shepherd 
6
Lutheran Church on this momentous occasion and wish them the 
7
best in the future; and be it further

 
8
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9
presented to Reverend Roger Hurlbut as a symbol of our respect.
