HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Freeport resident Matthew Marvin for a life well lived; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Marvin recently celebrated his 70th anniversary with the Rotary Club; during World War II Mr. Marvin would actively seek out Rotary Clubs in Belgium and Switzerland, and helped fellow soldiers to later join the organization; because of his achievement he earned an audience with District 6420 Governor Pat Burch, who praised Mr. Marvin as a leader in the Rotary organization; and

WHEREAS, In 2003 Matthew Marvin donated $1 million to the Freeport Community Foundation for the second time in his life; his previous work in insurance and real estate made him appreciate making people happy and seeing the community of Freeport prosper; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Marvin is the only timekeeper in the USA Boxing Hall of Fame; he has served as timekeeper for events such as the Junior Olympic National Championships, for over 57 years; he got his start in 1946 while serving in the United States Army and volunteering; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Marvin took part in the landing at Utah Beach during the Invasion of Normandy in World War II; and

WHEREAS, On August 7, 2006 an ordinance was passed by the Freeport City Council to name a part of Park Boulevard in Freeport Matt Marvin Way; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Matthew Marvin for his many gifts to the people of Freeport, for his noteworthy achievements throughout the years, and for being a standout citizen of the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Matthew Marvin as a symbol of our respect and admiration.
