HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jane Rowland on the 
4
occasion of being the recipient of the 2007 American Library 
5
Association Trustee Citation; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, The ALA Trustee Citation was established in 1941 
7
to recognize public library trustees for distinguished service 
8
to library development and symbolizes and honors the best 
9
contributions and efforts of the estimated 60,000 American 
10
citizens who serve on library boards; and
 
11
    WHEREAS, Jane Rowland has served in distinguished 
12
positions at the local, State, and national levels; she was 
13
secretary of the Calumet City Public Library Board from 1994 to 
14
1997,  Vice President of the Board from 1997 to 2001, and 
15
President of the Board from 2001 to the present; she was a 
16
member of the Suburban Library System Board from 1995 to 2002, 
17
serving as President in 2000 and 2001; she has served on the 
18
Illinois Library Association Trustee Forum Executive Board 
19
since 1994 and has served two years as its President; she has 
20
been a member of the Association of Library Trustees and 
21
Advocates Board since 2000, where she has served as  Second Vice 
22
President, First Vice President/President Elect, and 
23
President; she continues to serve as a member on ALTA's

Executive Board; and

    WHEREAS, Jane Rowland was voted the Illinois Library 
3
Association Trustee of the Year in 1999; and she was the 
4
recipient of the Metropolitan Library System Trustee of the 
5
Year Award in 2006; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Jane Rowland's dedication to her work, tireless 
7
advocacy, and competent leadership make her a wonderful asset 
8
to the Illinois library community and to the people of the 
9
State of Illinois; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
11
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
12
congratulate Jane Rowland on the occasion of being the 
13
recipient of the 2007 American Library Association Trustee 
14
Citation and wish her continued success and happiness in the 
15
future; and be it further

 
16
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17
presented to Jane Rowland as a symbol of our esteem and 
18
respect.
