| 2 |  |     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of  | 
| 3 |  | Representatives wish to commemorate the accomplishments of  | 
| 4 |  | local athletes, who bring together fans and residents from  | 
| 5 |  | their communities; and
 | 
| 6 |  |     WHEREAS, The Illinois State Special Olympics were held June  | 
| 7 |  | 15 to 17, 2007, at Illinois State University's Hancock Stadium;  | 
| 8 |  | and
 | 
| 9 |  |     WHEREAS, For the first time, all 20 members of the Canton  | 
| 10 |  | Special Olympics Team participated in the Illinois State  | 
| 11 |  | Special Olympics, where the team received 15 medals including  | 
| 12 |  | nine gold, five silver, and one bronze, signifying their  | 
| 13 |  | achievements; and
 | 
| 14 |  |     WHEREAS, Athletes must place first or second in local or  | 
| 15 |  | regional competitions in order to compete at the State games;  | 
| 16 |  | and
 | 
| 17 |  |     WHEREAS, Following the Special Olympics, the team was  | 
| 18 |  | welcomed back to Canton with an escort to Lincoln School from  | 
| 19 |  | the Canton Fire Department; and
 | 
| 20 |  |     WHEREAS, Canton team members participating in this year's  | 
|     | 
|

| 1 |  | Illinois State Special Olympics opening ceremonies were banner  | 
| 2 |  | carriers Joseph Davison, Brad Bitner, Zach Taylor, and Nicholas  | 
| 3 |  | Denning, and torch runner Brittany Hart; and
 | 
| 4 |  |     WHEREAS, Members of the Canton Special Olympics Team  | 
| 5 |  | received individual honors, including Gold Medal winners  | 
| 6 |  | Jordan Beard, Brad Bitner, and Nicole Hickman in the running  | 
| 7 |  | long jump; Chris Clouse in the shot put; Montana Davis in the  | 
| 8 |  | 50 meter; Parker Roos in the tennis ball throw; Felisha Swank  | 
| 9 |  | in the softball throw and 100 meter; and the relay team of  | 
| 10 |  | Felisha Swank, Nicole Hickman, Zach Taylor, and Kyle Wilson;  | 
| 11 |  | Silver Medal winners Montana Davis in the softball throw;  | 
| 12 |  | Joseph Davison in the running long jump; Elizabeth Griffith in  | 
| 13 |  | the tennis ball throw; Shane Wilcox in the shot put; and the  | 
| 14 |  | relay team of Montana Davis, LeeRoy Davis, Jordan Beard, and  | 
| 15 |  | Colton Chears; and Bronze Medal winner Mairy Deatherage in the  | 
| 16 |  | softball throw; fourth place winners Nick Denning and Kyle  | 
| 17 |  | Wilson in the running long jump; and Jordan Beard and Parker  | 
| 18 |  | Roos in the 50 meter; fifth place winners Fabian Lindsey in the  | 
| 19 |  | tennis ball throw and 50 meter; LeeRoy Davis in the softball  | 
| 20 |  | throw; Brittany Hart in the 100 meter; and Joseph Davison in  | 
| 21 |  | the 200 meter; sixth place winners Colton Chears and Brittany  | 
| 22 |  | Hart in the running long jump; and Brad Bitner and LeeRoy Davis  | 
| 23 |  | in the 50 meter; and

| 10 |  | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we  | 
| 11 |  | congratulate the Canton Special Olympics Team on their  | 
| 12 |  | achievements at the 2007 Illinois State Special Olympics; and  | 
| 13 |  | be it further
 | 
| 14 |  |     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be  | 
| 15 |  | presented to the Canton Special Olympics Team as a symbol of  | 
| 16 |  | our appreciation for their hard work and dedication.
