| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The Urban Park and Recreation Recovery Program |
| 3 |
| (UPARR) is a matching federal grant program administered by the |
| 4 |
| National Park Service of the Department of the Interior; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The purpose of the program is to provide funding |
| 6 |
| for the rehabilitation of parks and recreation areas in cities |
| 7 |
| and urban communities; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Since the establishment of the program in 1978, |
| 9 |
| approximately 1500 individual grants totaling more than |
| 10 |
| $270,000,000 have been made to eligible cities and counties; |
| 11 |
| and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, No funds have been appropriated under UPARR for |
| 13 |
| the past 5 years; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Urban park development is essential for economic |
| 15 |
| revitalization, environmental stewardship, and public |
| 16 |
| recreation; therefore, be it
|
| 17 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 18 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 19 |
| urge the Congress of the United States of America to support |
| 20 |
| funding for the Urban Park and Recreation Recovery Program; and |
