HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Susan Burrows for 
4
her 40 years of service to the Des Plaines community; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Susan Burrows was a valued member of the Des 
6
Plaines Public Library Board of Trustees from July 19, 1979 to 
7
April 22, 2006; she served as President of the Board of 
8
Trustees from 1984 to 1989; she served on the library's 80th 
9
and 90th Anniversary Committees; she served as the chair of the 
10
Finance Committee several times and ensured that the library 
11
was fiscally responsible; members of the Board came to depend 
12
on Ms. Burrows for her knowledge of library law and library 
13
funding; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, During her time on the Des Plaines Public Library 
15
Board of Trustees, Susan Burrows  led the transition of the 
16
library's paper catalog into a fully functional automated 
17
catalog, encouraged the library to became a member of a 
18
consortium of libraries, led the library to become a repository 
19
of antique dolls and information of doll collecting, and helped 
20
create the design of the new library building; she was 
21
instrumental in establishing the Library Foundation and was a 
22
tireless worker for its fundraiser, Do the Dewey; and

    WHEREAS, Susan Burrows has been generous with her time and 
2
money; she donated Thomas The Tank trains and train tables to 
3
the library's children's department, which became the 
4
department's most popular feature; she donated the aquarium for 
5
the children's room in the new library building that the 
6
children of Des Plaines requested be part of the new children's 
7
space; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, Susan Burrows has a deep understanding of the 
9
value of libraries to the entire community of Des Plaines and 
10
the many ways that a library serves its customers; therefore, 
11
be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
13
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
14
congratulate and thank Susan Burrows on many years of service 
15
to the Des Plaines community and wish her continued success and 
16
happiness in the future; and be it further

 
17
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18
presented to Susan Burrows as an expression of our esteem and 
19
respect.
