| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to honor Louis Hencken, President | ||||||
| 4 | of Eastern Illinois University, on his retirement; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Louis Hencken began his career in student affairs | ||||||
| 6 | at EIU as a graduate assistant and advanced through the housing | ||||||
| 7 | ranks as a counselor and both assistant and associate director | ||||||
| 8 | prior to being selected as Director of Housing in 1975; he | ||||||
| 9 | continued as Director until 1989, when he was named Associate | ||||||
| 10 | Vice President for Student Affairs at EIU; his duties expanded | ||||||
| 11 | once more in 1992, when he was named Vice President of Student | ||||||
| 12 | Affairs at EIU; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, In 1996-97 he served as interim Director of | ||||||
| 14 | Athletics when the EIU Panthers were the Ohio Valley Conference | ||||||
| 15 | All-Sports Champion; he also served as an NCAA football | ||||||
| 16 | official and was assigned to five NCAA playoff games, including | ||||||
| 17 | the 1989 NCAA Division III National Championship game; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, On August 1, 2001, Louis Hencken was named | ||||||
| 19 | President of Eastern Illinois University, where he has worked | ||||||
| 20 | tirelessly to enhance Eastern Illinois University's reputation | ||||||
| 21 | and quality; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Louis Hencken has been a strong advocate for EIU | ||||||
| 2 | with the State government leadership, improved the | ||||||
| 3 | University's image within Illinois, aggressively increased | ||||||
| 4 | private giving, promoted improvements in academic support | ||||||
| 5 | services, and enhanced the quality of student life; he has also | ||||||
| 6 | been involved in University community work with affirmative | ||||||
| 7 | action, undergraduate education, minority student recruitment | ||||||
| 8 | and administrative appointments; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Louis Hencken has been an active member of his | ||||||
| 10 | community, having served as a director and chair of the Sarah | ||||||
| 11 | Bush Lincoln Health Center Board of Directors and a director of | ||||||
| 12 | Credit Union 1; he has also served on Coles Together, Coles | ||||||
| 13 | Connected, and the Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce; | ||||||
| 14 | therefore, be it

| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 17 | congratulate Louis Hencken on his retirement and wish him | ||||||
| 18 | continued good success in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to Louis Hencken.
