HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to honor Howard Heavner of Valmeyer 
4
on his 25th anniversary in the education field; and

 

5
    WHEREAS, He married Ellen Mary (Diekemper) on July 13, 
6
1979; together they have five children, Ryan Howard Heavner, 
7
Anna Marie Heavner, Andrew Joseph Heavner, Joseph Thomas 
8
Heavner, and Jonathan Thomas Heavner; and

 
9
    WHEREAS, He graduated from Western Illinois University in 
10
May of 1982 and began his career at Valmeyer Community Unit 
11
School District in July of 1982 teaching vocational 
12
agriculture; and
13
    WHEREAS, He was named the Outstanding Young Member of the 
14
Illinois Association of Vocational Agriculture Teachers 
15
1986-1987; he received an Excellence in Teaching Award in 1989, 
16
sponsored by the V.P. Fair and Emerson Electric Company; he has 
17
been awarded the State of Illinois Outstanding Vocational 
18
Agriculture Teacher numerous times; he received the Governor's 
19
Path Award in 2006 and was recognized at the Governor's 
20
Inauguration Ceremony in January of 2007; and

 
21
    WHEREAS, His Parliamentary Procedure Teams won first place 
22
in the State of Illinois in 1990, 1992, 1997, 2000, and 2007;

they placed second in 1994, 1995, 2001, and 2004; and

 
2
    WHEREAS, He is currently serving his first term as the 
3
Mayor of Valmeyer; and he has served several terms on the State 
4
of Illinois Future Farmers of America Board of Directors; and
 
5
    WHEREAS, He is well respected by his students, who call him 
6
"Sir"; he has worked with students and parents and is respected 
7
in the community; he has dedicated his life to teaching and his 
8
teaching program is considered one of the best in the State; 
9
therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
11
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
12
congratulate Howard Heavner on 25 years of dedication to 
13
education and to his students, their parents, and the people of 
14
Valmeyer; and be it further

 
15
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16
presented to Howard Heavner as a symbol of our respect.
