| WHEREAS, Mary Welsh, an esteemed resident of Naperville, a |
| 3 |
| member of the Girl Scouts-Fox Valley Council in Sugar Grove, |
| 4 |
| and a senior at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, has |
| 5 |
| achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service |
| 6 |
| by receiving a 2007 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, This prestigious award, presented by Prudential |
| 8 |
| Financial in partnership with the National Association of |
| 9 |
| Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across |
| 10 |
| America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to |
| 11 |
| serving their communities; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Mary Welsh earned this award by helping raise |
| 13 |
| almost $10,000 by organizing a team of 15 members to walk in an |
| 14 |
| American Cancer Society Relay for Life; she was motivated by |
| 15 |
| the untimely death of her father to cancer, and promoted the |
| 16 |
| event, recruited walkers, managed her team's camp-site, and |
| 17 |
| solicited sponsors; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, The success of the State of Illinois, the strength |
| 19 |
| of our communities, and the overall vitality of American |
| 20 |
| society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young |
| 21 |
| people like Mary Welsh who use their considerable talents and |
| 22 |
| resources to serve others; therefore, be it
