HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 
3
State of Illinois wish to honor the Chinese New Year 
4
Spectacular being held at Auditorium Theatre in Chicago on 
5
March 3, 2007; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, The Chinese New Year is the most colorful and 
7
important of China's fetes and the Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, 
8
and Singaporean celebrate their ancient traditions through 
9
family reunions and performing arts; and

 
10
    WHEREAS, The 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular will span 28 
11
major cities in Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America, 
12
with an expected live audience of 150,000 worldwide; the 
13
Chicago shows will have an estimated audience of 7,800; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, The 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular will be 
15
performed by the Divine Performing Arts group, whose mission is 
16
to rediscover the essence of true, traditional culture and to 
17
bring arts that celebrate human dignity and positive values; it 
18
produces and performs works that center on classical themes and 
19
divinely-inspired cultural traditions; the groups performances 
20
aim to provide an experience of consummate beauty and goodness;

and

    WHEREAS, The 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular in Chicago 
2
aims to be a showcase of traditional Chinese culture, a 
3
platform for cross-cultural understanding between the East and 
4
West, and a unifying event for all people interested in Chinese 
5
culture; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, The 2007 Chinese New Year Spectacular is organized 
7
by the Sound of Hope Radio, an independent Chinese language 
8
media; Sound of Hope Radio is a non-for-profit organization 
9
dedicated to facilitate cross-cultural communications between 
10
the East and West, and to assist the public in their search for 
11
valuable cultural events, and services, educational workshops, 
12
and publications; in addition, the program is partially 
13
supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council; therefore, 
14
be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
16
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
17
honor and express our support for the 2007 Chinese New Year 
18
Spectacular; and be it further

 
19
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
20
presented to the Chinese New Year Spectacular Organizing 
21
Committee.
