| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Many Americans adopt children from foreign |
| 3 |
| countries and raise them in the United States; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, These foreign-born children automatically become |
| 5 |
| United States citizens upon adoption; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, We tell these children that we live in a free |
| 7 |
| society where men and women have equal rights and equal worth, |
| 8 |
| that they control their own destinies, and that their |
| 9 |
| opportunities are limitless; then these children are denied the |
| 10 |
| ability to seek the highest office in the land, because of the |
| 11 |
| circumstances of their birth; therefore, be it
|
| 12 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 13 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 14 |
| urge the United States Congress to support a constitutional |
| 15 |
| amendment to allow foreign-born citizens to run for President |
| 16 |
| of the United States; and be it further
|
| 17 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 18 |
| presented to the Majority Leader of the United States Senate, |
| 19 |
| the Minority Leader of the Senate, the Speaker of the United |
| 20 |
| States House of Representatives, the Minority Leader of the |
| 21 |
| House of Representatives, and to each member of the Illinois |
