| WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of the members of the |
| 3 |
| Illinois House of Representatives that the village of Cherry |
| 4 |
| Valley is celebrating it's sesquicentennial year in 2007; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Cherry Valley is the fourth oldest community in |
| 6 |
| Winnebago County, incorporated on January 31, 1857; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Cherry Valley was originally named Butler; the |
| 8 |
| name change was decided by placing suggested names into a hat; |
| 9 |
| the winning name was in honor of Cherry Valley, New York, where |
| 10 |
| the resident that suggested the name was originally from; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Cherry Valley installed the Village Clock in |
| 12 |
| September of 1924, where it still keeps time today; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Cherry Valley citizens elected their first female |
| 14 |
| Village President (Mayor) in 1925; Josephine Slatter won the |
| 15 |
| election by one vote; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Cherry Valley is a growing and prosperous |
| 17 |
| community with a population of 2,900 that increases by about 5% |
| 18 |
| annually; Cherry Valley has golf courses, recreational areas, a |
| 19 |
| growing industrial area, a large shopping mall, and a water |
| 20 |
| park; and the village continues to see development on an annual |
