| HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Many deaf people across the United States use |
| 3 |
| Video Relay Service to communicate with both hearing and other |
| 4 |
| deaf individuals; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The Federal Communications Commission and its |
| 6 |
| staff is intent on drastically reducing VRS rates; the |
| 7 |
| potential cutbacks are so severe that some providers may choose |
| 8 |
| to stop providing VRS service; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, The VRS rate is vital to the program in that the |
| 10 |
| revenue that is generated enables the program to serve more |
| 11 |
| deaf people, provide quality interpreter training programs to |
| 12 |
| ensure an adequate number of qualified interpreters for VRS and |
| 13 |
| the local Deaf communities, and provide service and technology |
| 14 |
| improvements to the people the program serves; therefore, be it
|
| 15 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 16 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE |
| 17 |
| SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we urge the FCC to maintain |
| 18 |
| current funding levels for the VRS program; and be it further
|
| 19 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable of this resolution be presented |
| 20 |
| to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin and FCC Commissioners Jonathan |
| 21 |
| Adelstein, Michael Copps, Robert McDowell, and Deborah Tate.
