| AN ACT concerning transportation.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Rivers, Lakes, and Streams Act is amended by |
| 5 |
| adding Section 23c as follows:
|

| (615 ILCS 5/23c new) |
| 7 |
| Sec. 23c. Levee evaluation. Subject to appropriation, the |
| 8 |
| Department of Natural Resources shall evaluate the adequacy of |
| 9 |
| the levee system in this State. If the Department finds the |
| 10 |
| levee system to be insufficient, the Department shall calculate |
| 11 |
| the cost of repairing the levee system.
The Department shall |
| 12 |
| report its findings to the Governor and the General Assembly no |
| 13 |
| later than March 1, 2009.

| 14 |
| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 15 |
| becoming law.
