AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 3518

    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 3518 by replacing

everything after the enacting clause with the following:

    "Section 5. The Illinois Domestic Violence Act of 1986 is 
5
amended by adding Section 214.5 as follows:

    (750 ILCS 60/214.5 new)

    Sec. 214.5. Discrimination against protected person. It is 
8
unlawful to discriminate against a person because of his or her 
9
order of protection status in connection with employment, real 
10
estate transactions, access to financial credit, or the 
11
availability of public accommodations.  When used in this 
12
Section, the term "order of protection status" means a person's 
13
status as being protected or previously protected under an 
14
order of protection issued pursuant to this Act or an order of 
15
protection issued by a court of another state.  Any person or 
16
entity that violates the provisions of this Section may be held

liable to the person affected in an action brought in a court 
2
of competent jurisdiction for such legal or equitable relief as 
3
may be appropriate to effectuate the purposes of this Act.

    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January 
5
1, 2008.".
