220 ILCS 5/9-254 new










    Amends the Public Utilities Act. Requires an electric utility to refund a customer's electricity bill for the time during electric utility outages at the rate of $100 per day for an outage lasting between 25 or more hours and 72 or less hours, and at a rate of $200 per day for an outage lasting more than 72 hours. Effective immediately.

    AN ACT concerning regulation.

    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

represented in the General Assembly:

    Section 5. The Public Utilities Act is amended  by adding 
5
Section 9-254 as follows:

    (220 ILCS 5/9-254  new)

    Sec. 9-254. Customer refunds for utility outages. An 
8
electric utility must refund a customer's electricity bill for 
9
the time during  electric utility outages as follows:

    (1) A refund of $100 per day for an electric utility outage 
11
lasting between 25 or more hours and 72 or less hours.

    (2)  A refund of $200 per day for an electric utility outage 
13
lasting more than 72 hours.

    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
15
becoming law.
