| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the passing of Harold R. Callahan of Waukegan, |
| 4 |
| Illinois, who passed away on November 19, 2006; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Harold Callahan was born at home during a |
| 6 |
| snowstorm in Waukegan on January 4, 1925, the youngest child of |
| 7 |
| James J. and Helen (Bauer Wall) Callahan; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Harold Callahan attended St. Anastasia Catholic |
| 9 |
| Grade School, Waukegan Township High School, Class of 1942, and |
| 10 |
| the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Class of 1949; |
| 11 |
| he was a Sergeant in the United States Army during World War |
| 12 |
| II, serving in the Pacific Theater; and |
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Harold Callahan and Joan Pfau were united in holy |
| 14 |
| matrimony on October 22, 1949; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, He owned and retired from his family's business, |
| 16 |
| North Shore Printers, Inc., in 1995; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Harold Callahan never lived more than a half of a |
| 18 |
| block off of North Avenue in Waukegan, with the exception of |
| 19 |
| college and the Army;
he was active in his community, including |
| 20 |
| a 30-year membership in the Waukegan Rotary Club, President of |
| 21 |
| the North Shore Club of Printing House Craftsmen, school board |
| 22 |
| member, football, basketball, and track coach at St. Anastasia |
| 23 |
| Catholic Grade School, Chairman of the Citizens Committee to |
| 24 |
| form a Waukegan Unit School District, President of the |
| 25 |
| Waukegan-North Chicago Chamber of Commerce, President of the |
| 26 |
| United Way of Lake County, a sponsor of Junior Achievement, a |
| 27 |
| member of the Waukegan-North Chicago Jaycees, Coach and |
| 28 |
| President of Northside Athletic Club, Chairman of the Lake |
| 29 |
| County Public Building Commission that built the jail, a board |
| 30 |
| member of the Lake County Easter Seal Society, a board member |
