| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of Richard Mervyn "Dick" Hall of Arlington |
| 4 |
| Heights, who passed away on November 3, 2006; and |
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Mervyn "Dick" Hall was born on May 14, |
| 6 |
| 1925, in Macomb, Illinois; his parents were Mervyn and Beryl |
| 7 |
| Hall; and |
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, After serving in the Army Air Corps, Richard Hall |
| 9 |
| attended the University of Illinois, Urbana, graduating in just |
| 10 |
| two and one-half years with a bachelor's degree in electrical |
| 11 |
| engineering; he was still working full-time as owner of a |
| 12 |
| commercial and industrial lighting fixture sales agency at the |
| 13 |
| time of his death; and |
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Hall was the longest-serving supervisor |
| 15 |
| out of 30 townships in Cook County; he began his 38 years of |
| 16 |
| public service with Elk Grove Township as a trustee in April |
| 17 |
| 1968; he was first elected Elk Grove Township supervisor eight |
| 18 |
| years later in 1976 and was repeatedly re-elected, serving in |
| 19 |
| that position until his death; and |
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Hall's legacy as township supervisor includes |
| 21 |
| a bicycle safety program for the township; the program now |
| 22 |
| trains between 5,000 to 7,000 children every year; he also |
| 23 |
| created the Elk Grove Township Community Day Care Center, so |
| 24 |
| that working mothers would have a place to bring their |
| 25 |
| children; and |
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Hall was president of the Elk Grove Township |
| 27 |
| Republican Organization, a resident of Elk Grove Township for |
| 28 |
| more than 40 years, and a member of the Township Officials of |
| 29 |
| Cook County; and |

| WHEREAS, In 2005 Mr. Hall was honored by local officials |
| 2 |
| when a street in unincorporated Elk Grove Township was re-named |
| 3 |
| Richard M. Hall Drive; and |
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Hall was a life master in duplicate bridge and |
| 5 |
| had mastered most major board games; he enjoyed spending time |
| 6 |
| with his family, gardening with his natural "green thumb", |
| 7 |
| cooking outdoors, even in the middle of winter, and playing |
| 8 |
| with his special at-home friends, his cats; and |
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Hall is survived by his wife, Arlene; his |
| 10 |
| daughters, Sharon (Ron) Lansdown, Lyn (Gary) Woodrum, and |
| 11 |
| Marianne (Cliff) Albert; Arlene's children, Tom Podlesak, |
| 12 |
| Bethann (Ed) Castellano, and Susan (Larry) Johnson; his |
| 13 |
| grandchildren, Kathy (Eric) Regan, Shari (Patrick) Hayes, Ron |
| 14 |
| Lansdown, Kari Woodrum, Eric Woodrum, Erin (Ian) Burgar, Ryan |
| 15 |
| (Sarah) Albert, and Weston Albert; Arlene's grandchildren, |
| 16 |
| Michael Castellano, Brittany Castellano, Danny Castellano, |
| 17 |
| Larry Johnson, Jr., Scott Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Katie |
| 18 |
| Johnson, Jason Johnson, Brianna Johnson, and Connor Johnson; |
| 19 |
| his great-grandchildren, Melanie Regan, Christopher Hayes, and |
| 20 |
| Caelan Hayes; his sister, Betty (Bob) Rands; and many nephews |
| 21 |
| and nieces; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |
| 23 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 24 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Richard Hall; and be it |
| 25 |
| further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 27 |
| presented to Richard Hall.
