| SENATE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, There is a need to implement health care liability |
| 3 |
| reforms on the federal level to: improve the availability of |
| 4 |
| health care services in cases in which health care liability |
| 5 |
| actions have been shown to be a factor in the decreased |
| 6 |
| availability of services; reduce the incidence of defensive |
| 7 |
| medicine and lower the cost of health care liability insurance; |
| 8 |
| ensure that persons with meritorious health care injury claims |
| 9 |
| receive fair and adequate compensation; impose reasonable |
| 10 |
| limits on noneconomic damages; improve the fairness and |
| 11 |
| cost-effectiveness of our current health care liability system |
| 12 |
| to resolve disputes over, and provide compensation for, health |
| 13 |
| care liability by reducing uncertainty in the amount of |
| 14 |
| compensation provided to injured individuals; and provide an |
| 15 |
| increased sharing of information in the health care system |
| 16 |
| which will reduce unintended injury and improve patient care; |
| 17 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |
| 19 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the United |
| 20 |
| States Congress to enact legislation to implement health care |
| 21 |
| liability reforms, including reasonable limits on noneconomic |
| 22 |
| damages; and be it further

| RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be delivered to |
| 24 |
| each member of the Illinois congressional delegation.
