SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Margaret Iola Morrison of Springfield on February 5, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Margaret Morrison was the only child born to the union of Walter Anderson and Margaret Angela Coe-Anderson on July 20, 1920; and

WHEREAS, She was educated in the Springfield Public Schools and graduated from the American Correspondence School; on December 23, 1939, she married Farries H. Morrison, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, She participated in several youth activities at Brown Street Church of God in Christ, including the Sunshine Band, the Puritans, and the choir; she loved gospel music and was an excellent soloist; she was also an active participant in all aspects of the Church of God in Christ at the local, district, state jurisdictional, and national levels; and

WHEREAS, Along with her husband, she founded Prayer Wheel Church of God in Christ in Springfield and East Side Church of God in Christ in Decatur; she was a lifetime member of Prayer Wheel Church of God in Christ, where she served as first lady for over 45 years, the President of the Mothers' Board, and Superintendent of the Sunday School Department; and

WHEREAS, For 13 years, she was the First Assistant Supervisor of Women in the Central Illinois Jurisdiction for the Church of God in Christ, International; for many years, she was a member of the Springfield Women United and served as President of the Pastors' and Ministers' Wives Fellowship of Springfield; she was awarded the Senior Citizen Meritorious Contribution to the Community Award by the National Association for the Advancement for Colored People, Springfield Chapter; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Ann Morrison, and her great-grandson, Juan L. Morrison, III; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Margaret Iola Morrison is felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her husband, Rev. Farries H. Morrison, Sr.; her sons, Rev. Dr. Farries H. Morrison, Jr., (Betty) and Rev. Dr. Juan Morrison, Sr., (Clementine); her grandchildren; her great-grandchildren; her cousins, nieces, and nephews; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Thrailkill; and her many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Margaret Iola Morrison and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
