| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to |
| 4 |
| the family and friends of Marine Sergeant Thomas Michael |
| 5 |
| Gilbert of Downers Grove, Illinois; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Thomas Gilbert died on October 25, 2006, defending |
| 7 |
| his country while serving his second tour in Iraq, for which he |
| 8 |
| volunteered; he was killed in combat while fighting insurgents |
| 9 |
| in the Anbar province of Iraq, just west of Baghdad; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, He was a 2000 graduate of Downers Grove North High |
| 11 |
| School; he attended Lester, Herrick, and Downers Grove North |
| 12 |
| schools; he played football in high school, as well as being a |
| 13 |
| member of the track team; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, He was a marketing major at Western Michigan |
| 15 |
| University; he joined the Marine Reserve in September of 2000; |
| 16 |
| he was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve's 1st Battalion, 24th |
| 17 |
| Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, based out of Grand |
| 18 |
| Rapids, Michigan; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Thomas Gilbert is described as a proud Irishman |
| 20 |
| who loved hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, |
| 21 |
| wakeboarding, outdoor sports, and hanging out with his friends; |
| 22 |
| and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, Letters were read at the funeral of Thomas Gilbert |
| 24 |
| from his Marine unit, thanking him for jeopardizing his life to |
| 25 |
| save his friends; and
|
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, Thomas Gilbert was the loving son of Michael and |
| 27 |
| Theresa Gilbert; in addition to his parents, he leaves behind |
| 28 |
| to cherish his memory: his sisters, Tamara Gilbert and Trisha |
| 29 |
| (Brad) Pelhank; his grandparents, George and Joann Cooper and |
