| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Thornwood High School Principal Gary Lester has |
| 3 |
| been named High School Principal of the Year by the Illinois |
| 4 |
| Principals Association; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He has just completed his 31st year at Thornwood |
| 6 |
| High School in South Holland; he has taught social studies, |
| 7 |
| served as dean and assistant principal, and has been |
| 8 |
| Thornwood's principal for six years; he also spent many years |
| 9 |
| coaching football, girls basketball, and softball; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, He has been known to be at work until 9 or 10 p.m. |
| 11 |
| and can regularly be seen at the school's football games and |
| 12 |
| other sporting events, sharing in the celebration of their many |
| 13 |
| state titles; some of his proudest moments were when |
| 14 |
| Thornwood's basketball teams won the Illinois High School |
| 15 |
| Association's good sportsmanship award; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, During his time at Thornwood, he helped implement |
| 17 |
| the High Schools That Work comprehensive school reform program |
| 18 |
| and the "Dare to Care" initiative; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, He has a good relationship with students, and they |
| 20 |
| feel comfortable enough to stop by his office and share ideas |
| 21 |
| with him; he brings people together, listens to them, and |
| 22 |
| motivates them to do what is best for students; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, He is the father of six children, ranging in ages |
| 24 |
| from 1 to 22; he resides with his wife, Shelly, in Downers |
| 25 |
| Grove; and
|
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, Gary Lester is truly deserving of being named |
| 27 |
| Principal of the Year, and now is in the running for National |
| 28 |
| High School Principal of the Year; therefore, be it
