| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are honored to recognize the milestones in the |
| 4 |
| lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and |
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Pastor Ferlander N. Lewis will celebrate his 20th |
| 6 |
| year as the pastor of the New Mount Olive Baptist Church in |
| 7 |
| Harvey; and |
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Ferlander N. Lewis was born the fifth child of |
| 9 |
| Rev. James and Rose Lewis; raised in the church all of his |
| 10 |
| life, he confessed hope in Christ in 1969; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, He began playing the piano at age eight and, |
| 12 |
| shortly thereafter, began playing for the church where his |
| 13 |
| father was the pastor; as an accomplished musician and singer, |
| 14 |
| he has played for many choirs and recording artists and has |
| 15 |
| appeared on several recording projects; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Pastor Lewis is a graduate of Beloit College; he |
| 17 |
| began preaching in 1979; after being licensed and ordained, he |
| 18 |
| served as an Associate Minister for seven years at the True |
| 19 |
| Vine Baptist Church of Dixmoor; in February 1986, he was called |
| 20 |
| to pastor the New Mount Olive Baptist Church of Harvey; as |
| 21 |
| pastor of the church, Pastor Lewis has witnessed New Mount |
| 22 |
| Olive grow in every area that reflects the Kingdom of God, |
| 23 |
| moving from less than 100 members to over 2,500 members; and
|
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, He is the CEO of the Christian Help Center, an |
| 25 |
| organization that offers youth, senior, and vocational |
| 26 |
| programming and services; he serves on the Board of Directors |
| 27 |
| at the prestigious Glenwood School; and he is the chaplain for |
| 28 |
| the City of Harvey; and
|
| 29 |
| WHEREAS, Pastor Lewis is listed in the Library of Congress |
