| WHEREAS, Sharyn Markus, Edwin Schomaker, Charles "Dan" |
| 3 |
| Dermody, and Sr. Joetta Huelsmann, PHJC, will be inducted into |
| 4 |
| the Mater Dei
Catholic High School Hall of Honor on Saturday, |
| 5 |
| May 6, 2006; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Inductees into the Mater Dei Hall of Honor have |
| 7 |
| distinguished themselves in living the mission of Mater Dei |
| 8 |
| High School by their service to their communities in the areas |
| 9 |
| of academics, business, professional or religious life, and |
| 10 |
| public service; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Sharyn Markus of Colorado Springs, Colorado, is a |
| 12 |
| 1968 graduate of Mater Dei High School; she is being inducted |
| 13 |
| for her contributions in education as an English, Language |
| 14 |
| Arts, Reading, and Journalism teacher, and for the many |
| 15 |
| outstanding community service projects that she has |
| 16 |
| established; her teaching career began in 1972, and she now |
| 17 |
| serves as the school liaison for the Colorado Springs World |
| 18 |
| Affairs Council and is also the project coordinator of All |
| 19 |
| Pikes Peak Reads for the Pikes Peak Library District and |
| 20 |
| coordinator for the Children's Literacy Center, Academy School |
| 21 |
| District Twenty; she and her students started the paperclip |
| 22 |
| campaign to honor Holocaust victims; she has served as the |
| 23 |
| executive director for the Colorado Springs Dental Society |
| 24 |
| since 1976, and she traveled to Argentina in 2005 and 2006 with |
| 25 |
| the Children's International Dental Project; and
|
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, Edwin Schomaker is being inducted for his many |
| 27 |
| years of service to Mater Dei and his commitment to the Fathers |
| 28 |
| and Friends organization; he lives in New Baden and is a member |
| 29 |
| of St. George parish; he valiantly served his country as member |
| 30 |
| of the U.S. Army, worked for an Oldsmobile dealership in |
| 31 |
| Mascoutah, and in 1990 retired from General Motors after 44 |
| 32 |
| years; he has been a member of the St. George Holy Name Society |

| and served as its president for ten years; he has been a member |
| 2 |
| of the American Legion Poelker Post for 52 years, served with |
| 3 |
| the Fathers and Friends for 32 years, and from the late 1970s |
| 4 |
| to early 1980s, was a member of the Mater Dei School Board; he |
| 5 |
| also was involved with the March of Dimes for several years; he |
| 6 |
| and his wife Frieda (Wolters) have been married since 1953 and |
| 7 |
| are blessed with five children, Jim, Don, Mary Lou, Geri, and |
| 8 |
| Karen, and eight grandchildren; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Charles D. "Dan" Dermody is a member of Mater Dei |
| 10 |
| Class of 1961; upon his graduation in 1961, he immediately |
| 11 |
| started working in broadcasting; his career has taken him to |
| 12 |
| stations in Illinois, Armed Forces Radio on Okinawa, North |
| 13 |
| Carolina, Florida, and back to Illinois; in 2005, after working |
| 14 |
| for 19 years at WXCL, he joined JMP/Triad Broadcasting in |
| 15 |
| Peoria as Program Director/Morning Host on WIRL; the Illinois |
| 16 |
| Country Music Association has named him "Illinois Country Music |
| 17 |
| Air Personality of the Year" five times; on October 1, 2006, he |
| 18 |
| will celebrate 45 years in the broadcasting industry; he and |
| 19 |
| his wife, Mary Ann (Schmitt), serve as Ambassadors for the St. |
| 20 |
| Jude's Children's Research Hospital and its affiliate in |
| 21 |
| Peoria; he has been instrumental in raising over one million |
| 22 |
| dollars for the continuing research into childhood cancer and |
| 23 |
| other pediatric diseases; he is active in St. Vincent de Paul |
| 24 |
| parish activities and serves as a lector; he and Mary Ann have |
| 25 |
| one son, Christopher; and |
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, Sr. Joetta Huelsmann, PHJC, is a 1966 graduate of |
| 27 |
| Mater Dei and is currently serving as co-director of John XXIII |
| 28 |
| Retreat Center in Hartford, Indiana; Sr. Joetta entered the |
| 29 |
| Novitiate of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ in Donaldson, |
| 30 |
| Indiana, after high school; she began her ministry by teaching |
| 31 |
| elementary school; she has served in many places, including |
| 32 |
| Macon; Mt. Zion; Edwardsville; Richmond, Minnesota; |
| 33 |
| Burlington, Iowa; Rock Island; and she returned to pastoral |
| 34 |
| ministry in 1987 as a DRE/Pastoral Associate at St. Mary's, |
|

| Quincy, then assumed the role of Pastoral Associate at St. |
| 2 |
| Vincent de Paul, Fort Wayne, Indiana, until 1997; at that time, |
| 3 |
| she was elected to the Leadership Team of the Poor Handmaids of |
| 4 |
| Jesus Christ as a Provincial Councilor, a position she held for |
| 5 |
| eight years; therefore, be it
|
| 6 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 7 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 8 |
| we congratulate Sharyn Markus, Edwin Schomaker, Charles (Dan) |
| 9 |
| Dermody, and Sr. Joetta Huelsmann, PHJC, on their induction |
| 10 |
| into the Mater Dei Hall of Honor; and be it further
|

| RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
