| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, In order to gather statistics concerning the |
| 3 |
| racial identity of persons stopped for traffic violations, |
| 4 |
| Section 11-212 of the Illinois Vehicle Code was enacted to |
| 5 |
| require every law enforcement agency in the State to compile |
| 6 |
| statistical data relevant to traffic stops, including the race |
| 7 |
| of the person stopped, the location, date, and time of the |
| 8 |
| stop, the reason for the stop, and the name and badge number of |
| 9 |
| the officer; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Every law enforcement agency is required to |
| 11 |
| transmit its statistical data to the Department of |
| 12 |
| Transportation by March 1 of 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Some law enforcement agencies are not in |
| 14 |
| compliance with these requirements; therefore, be it
|
| 15 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 16 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 17 |
| we urge the Office of the Attorney General to investigate the |
| 18 |
| failure of law enforcement agencies to compile and transmit |
| 19 |
| statistical data relevant to traffic stops as required under |
| 20 |
| Section 11-212 of the Illinois Vehicle Code; and be it further
|
| 21 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 |
| delivered to the Attorney General.
