| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, It is the privilege of this Body to recognize |
| 3 |
| significant milestones in the history of the communities of our |
| 4 |
| State; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The Village of Peotone was founded in the year |
| 6 |
| 1856 and will celebrate its 150th anniversary in June of 2006; |
| 7 |
| and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, The Illinois Central Railroad was completed in |
| 9 |
| 1856, and land not held by the railroad was to be occupied by |
| 10 |
| settlers who came together to form the Village of Peotone; by |
| 11 |
| 1869, dirt streets, homes, and a small amount of business had |
| 12 |
| been built and the village board had been formed; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, In 1872, a Peotone landmark was built; Peotone |
| 14 |
| Mill would purchase wheat and rye from area farmers to be |
| 15 |
| ground into flour and other grain for feed purposes; during the |
| 16 |
| following years, many business were formed, including a photo |
| 17 |
| gallery, the opera house, a blacksmith shop, an auto repair |
| 18 |
| shop, a laundry, an undertaker, a hardware store, and many |
| 19 |
| others; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Peotone School District started in a one-room |
| 21 |
| school house and has grown to the present 600 plus student |
| 22 |
| body; the Village is also home to many churches and a library |
| 23 |
| to serve the citizens of the area; and
|
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, The Village of Peotone will celebrate its 150th |
| 25 |
| anniversary on June 24, 2006; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 27 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 28 |
| we congratulate the citizens of the Village of Peotone on the |
| 29 |
| occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Village's founding; |
