| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Each year sudden cardiac arrest claims the lives |
| 3 |
| of more than 250,000 Americans before they reach a hospital; it |
| 4 |
| strikes people of all levels of fitness, and it usually strikes |
| 5 |
| without warning; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Most often, sudden cardiac arrest is caused by an |
| 7 |
| abnormal heart rhythm called ventricular fibrillation that |
| 8 |
| prevents the heart from pumping blood; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, The treatment for ventricular fibrillation is |
| 10 |
| defibrillation, which is the delivery of an electric shock to |
| 11 |
| the heart that stops ventricular fibrillation and allows a |
| 12 |
| normal heart rhythm to resume; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Providing defibrillation on-site with an |
| 14 |
| Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can significantly |
| 15 |
| increase survival rates for ventricular fibrillation cardiac |
| 16 |
| arrest; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, The American Heart Association is a national |
| 18 |
| voluntary health agency whose mission is to reduce disability |
| 19 |
| and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke, and it is |
| 20 |
| dedicated to helping businesses and communities establish |
| 21 |
| on-site AED programs; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, The American Heart Association and its volunteers |
| 23 |
| have assisted in the establishment of AED programs at the |
| 24 |
| Illinois House of Representatives and the Illinois Senate by |
| 25 |
| providing life-saving CPR and AED training for General Assembly |
| 26 |
| employees in 2004 and again in 2005; therefore, be it
|
| 27 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
