HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Ms. Bernice Perkins on the occasion of her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Perkins worked as receptionist at the Organization of the NorthEast (ONE) for over 15 years; she began her employment with ONE in 1989 as a Catholic Charities Volunteer; her work was so good, that the organization raised funds to offer her permanent employment; she served in her post with dedication for nearly 16 years; and

WHEREAS, As receptionist, Ms. Perkins was responsible for answering telephones, taking messages for staff, assisting members of the community who would call or come to the door for help, faxing, mailings, and ordering office supplies; she assisted at public meetings and other ONE events; she was always willing to take on extra duties to help the staff; and

WHEREAS, In addition to all of the above, Ms. Perkins turned the reception desk at ONE to a center of compassion and help for community members in need; many people would call just to hear her sage words of wisdom, or when they would need cheering up on a rainy day; she often gave clothes, food, and other gifts to the many needy people who passed through ONE's doors; she frequently organized the staff and Board members to make donations to worthy causes; and

WHEREAS, As Ms. Perkins leaves ONE, it is certain that she will continue to be a leader in the community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Bernice Perkins on the occasion of her retirement from her position at ONE, and we thank her for her many years of dedication to helping her fellow citizens; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her as an expression of our esteem and with best wishes for all of her future endeavors.
