| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Man-made and natural disasters that may |
| 3 |
| tragically cause trauma can occur at any time as evidenced by |
| 4 |
| September 11, 2001, and the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in |
| 5 |
| 2005; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, The State of Illinois should examine new means of |
| 7 |
| disaster planning to make sure all citizens of the State are |
| 8 |
| cared for in times of need; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, The State of Illinois should have a comprehensive |
| 10 |
| plan in place that utilizes all of its resources; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has many resources, |
| 12 |
| including State money, State equipment, State facilities, and |
| 13 |
| State employees; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, State employees are a resource the State has |
| 15 |
| invested in and most would be willing to assist their fellow |
| 16 |
| citizens in time of need; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, The State of Illinois should create a program to |
| 18 |
| allow non-essential State employees to volunteer to join an |
| 19 |
| Emergency Corps to assist in emergency situations as directed |
| 20 |
| by the Governor; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, These State employees should be trained in advance |
| 22 |
| to be mobilized as soon as possible at the direction of the |
| 23 |
| Governor in the time of crisis; therefore, be it
|
| 24 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 25 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 26 |
| we urge Governor Blagojevich, the Illinois Emergency |
| 27 |
| Management Agency, and the Department of Central Management |
| 28 |
| Services to create an Emergency Corps made up of volunteer |
