| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The Village of Bloomingdale's Public Library is |
| 3 |
| celebrating its 30th anniversary on June 9, 2005; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, In January of 1974, the Village established |
| 5 |
| "Friends of the Library" to promote a library for Bloomingdale; |
| 6 |
| and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, On June 9, 2005, the library was dedicated and |
| 8 |
| opened its doors with a collection of 4,500 adult and juvenile |
| 9 |
| books, a staff of three, and over 30 volunteers providing 28 |
| 10 |
| hours of service each week; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Within six months, the library was selected as an |
| 12 |
| "All-Star Library" by the Illinois Library Association; |
| 13 |
| statewide, only four libraries were so honored that year; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, As Bloomingdale continued to grow, so did its need |
| 15 |
| for expanded library services; on May 3, 1981, ground was |
| 16 |
| broken for a 20,000 square foot library building, and its doors |
| 17 |
| opened on July 15, 1982; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, A six-year study was conducted which led to the |
| 19 |
| creation of a building project designed to meet a 20-year plan |
| 20 |
| for library services to the community; plans were made to |
| 21 |
| expand and remodel the library and improve services, and on |
| 22 |
| September 7, 1995, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the |
| 23 |
| new addition; construction was completed in November of 1996, |
| 24 |
| and a grand "reopening" reception was held on December 1, 1996; |
| 25 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 27 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 28 |
| we congratulate the Bloomingdale Public Library on the occasion |
| 29 |
| of its 30th anniversary; and be it further
