HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois learned with deep sadness of the untimely death of Anthony J. "Tony" Hosey on Monday, April 25, 2005; and

WHEREAS, He was a five year veteran of the Illinois State University Police Department, assigned to the Illinois State Police Task Force 6 Bloomington; he graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation Administration in August of 1992; he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and an Active Member of Omega Psi Phi at Illinois State University; and

WHEREAS, He was appointed to the Illinois State University Police Department on July 5, 2000, and was assigned to the Patrol Division; he had previously served with the Robbins Police Department and was a graduate of the Cook County Sheriff's Police Academy; he was subsequently assigned to the Illinois State University Police, Criminal Investigation Division, where he was detailed to Task Force 6, a covert narcotics suppression unit; and

WHEREAS, Detective Inspector Hosey was the only officer in the last 22 years to receive one of the Department's highest honors in consecutive years; he was the recipient of the "Chief's Award of Merit - Meritorious Service Medal" in both 2003 and 2004; and

WHEREAS, He received the award in 2003 for his role in "Operation Shakespeare", which resulted in four Class X arrests and the seizure of massive amounts of illegal drugs; in 2004, he received the award for the arrest of five individuals who had sold 500 units of Ecstasy or Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) on campus and five other individuals selling and possessing marijuana; and

WHEREAS, Detective Hosey exemplified the highest traditions of the police service; he was a gentleman and a professional; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Detective Inspector Anthony J. "Tony" Hosey has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Shannon, nee McGinnis; his four children; his parents, Hattie Hosey and Henry Carr; his siblings, Vicky Hosey and Michael (Cherrice) Hosey; and his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Detective Inspector Anthony J. "Tony" Hosey, who was taken from this life at much too young an age, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our sincere condolences.
