| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Edwin J. |
| 4 |
| "Ed" Tangney of Decatur on Tuesday, May 3, 2005; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born on May 28, 1932, in Decatur to Edwin |
| 6 |
| "Skeet" Tangney and Helen (Lynch) Tangney; after graduating |
| 7 |
| from Decatur High School in 1950, he joined the Air Force and |
| 8 |
| was stationed in Texas and Alaska; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Upon returning to Decatur, Mr. Tangney began |
| 10 |
| working alongside his father as a plasterer; he always said he |
| 11 |
| helped plaster every school in Decatur; besides working in the |
| 12 |
| schools, they also plastered the hospitals and numerous homes |
| 13 |
| and businesses throughout Decatur; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, He married Phyllis Grolla on November 2, 1957; |
| 15 |
| they lived in Harristown for 21 years and raised five children; |
| 16 |
| in 1972, he began working as a Macon County Code Enforcement |
| 17 |
| Officer; he was appointed Macon County Recorder of Deeds in |
| 18 |
| 1976; he and his cousin, William "Bill" Tangney, Macon County |
| 19 |
| Clerk, worked in the courthouse together for over 20 years; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, In 1980, Mr. Tangney married Georgia Mancini, and |
| 21 |
| they raised two children; after almost 30 years of serving |
| 22 |
| Macon County, he decided to retire; he was so proud that his |
| 23 |
| daughter, Mary Eaton, followed in the Tangney Political |
| 24 |
| Tradition; she was appointed Recorder in 1999 upon his |
| 25 |
| retirement; and
|
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, Although Ed was "retired", he was always on the |
| 27 |
| go; he helped family and friends remodel their homes and |
| 28 |
| businesses, always lending the experienced hand of a plasterer |
| 29 |
| and handyman; as if that wasn't enough to keep him busy, he |
| 30 |
| started yet another job to occupy his spare time; he worked for |
