HOUSE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, Dr. Calvin Fischer is the 2005 recipient of the 
3
Illinois Academy of Family Physicians' (IAFP) Family Physician 
4
of the Year award; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, The Family Physician of the Year award recognizes 
6
a physician who provides patients with compassionate, 
7
comprehensive, and caring family medicine on a continuing 
8
basis; is directly involved in community affairs and activities 
9
to enhance the quality of the community; provides a credible 
10
role model professionally and personally to other health 
11
professionals and residents and medical students; can 
12
effectively represent IAFP and the specialty of family medicine 
13
in public speaking; and exemplifies the tradition of the family 
14
doctor and the contribution of family physicians to the 
15
continuing health of the citizens of Illinois; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, Dr. Fischer has been a member of the St. Alexius 
17
Medical Center Medical Staff for 25 years and is currently the 
18
Chief of Family Practice and a member of the Board of Trustees 
19
of the hospital; during his tenure at St. Alexius, he has also 
20
served as the Chairman of the  Board of Trustees for three 
21
successive terms, was elected President of the Medical Staff 
22
for three successful terms, and is a member of the Alexian 
23
Brothers Hospital Network Strategic Marketing and Development 
24
Committee; and

 
25
    WHEREAS, He routinely receives high praise and positive 
26
comments from the patients he serves, employees of the 
27
hospital, and his peers on the medical staff; he is active at 
28
Willow Creek Community Church, where he is a small group 
29
leader,  and he also serves as the church's Physician for 
30
International Conferences by donating his own time and skills 
31
treating any injuries or illness for attendees at the 
32
conference at no charge; he also serves as the Medical Director

of the Grace Community Christian Healthcare Free Clinic and is 
2
President of the Willowmere Home Owners Association; and

 
3
    WHEREAS, Dr. Fischer serves as a mentor for medical and PA 
4
students and for over 20 years has served as a registrar for 
5
the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians Medicine for Today 
6
Series at St. Alexius Medical Center; he has been certified and 
7
re-certified four times in Family Practice and maintains a 
8
full-time practice in Hoffman Estates; therefore, be it

 
9
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
10
NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
11
we congratulate Calvin Fischer, D.O., on on being selected as 
12
the 2005 recipient of the Illinois Academy of Family 
13
Physicians' Family Physician of the Year award, and we 
14
recognize the countless hours of hard work and dedication to 
15
his patients,  students, and  staff that he has demonstrated, 
16
which led to this honor; and be it further

 
17
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18
presented to Dr. Fischer as an expression of our respect and 
19
esteem.
