| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Phillip C. Stewart was first elected to the |
| 3 |
| District 54 Board of Education on November 2, 1993; he was |
| 4 |
| re-elected twice and his current term expires on April 21, |
| 5 |
| 2005; Mr. Stewart has announced his retirement from the |
| 6 |
| District 54 Board of Education; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Stewart has served on several committees while |
| 8 |
| a member of the school board; he is currently a member of the |
| 9 |
| Schaumburg Township Elementary School Foundation and |
| 10 |
| previously served on the Budget Committee, KASPER (a Kids After |
| 11 |
| School Program), the Legislative Networking Committee, and |
| 12 |
| Safe Schools/Responsible Students Committee; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, School safety has been a very important issue to |
| 14 |
| Mr. Stewart during his tenure as a board member; he has been |
| 15 |
| very proactive in supporting the development of a district-wide |
| 16 |
| safety-in-school initiative; the district has a comprehensive |
| 17 |
| program that includes both people and technology components and |
| 18 |
| offers programs in anti-bullying, drug awareness, gang |
| 19 |
| awareness, violence awareness, and character education; a |
| 20 |
| School Resource Officer program was developed and implemented, |
| 21 |
| and the district has utilized technology in all its buildings |
| 22 |
| to provide for physical security; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, He served on the KASPER board from 1993 to 2001, |
| 24 |
| and during that time, in partnership with the Schaumburg Park |
| 25 |
| District and the YMCA, the KASPER program was improved and |
| 26 |
| broadened; he is a strong supporter of the Schaumburg Township |
| 27 |
| Elementary School Foundation and currently serves as a trustee; |
| 28 |
| he is a strong advocate, not only for students, but also for |
| 29 |
| employees of the district, and he is a caring individual with a |
| 30 |
| dedication to serving his community; and
|
| 31 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Stewart is a retired professor of criminal |
