Amends the Human Skeletal Remains Protection Act to authorize the Historic Preservation Agency and Illinois State Museum to release human skeletal remains and artifacts to a unit of local government for reburial if the Agency determines that the release promotes and complies with the purposes of the Act.

| AN ACT concerning State government.
|
| 2 |
| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 |
| Section 5. The Human Skeletal Remains Protection Act is |
| 5 |
| amended by changing Section 14 as follows:
|
| 6 |
| (20 ILCS 3440/14) (from Ch. 127, par. 2674)

| Sec. 14. All human skeletal remains and grave artifacts in
|
| 8 |
| unregistered graves are held in trust for the people of |
| 9 |
| Illinois by the
State and are under the jurisdiction of the |
| 10 |
| Historic Preservation Agency.
All materials collected under |
| 11 |
| this Act shall be maintained, with dignity
and respect, for the |
| 12 |
| people of the State under the care of the Illinois
State |
| 13 |
| Museum. Nothing in this Section shall preclude the Agency or |
| 14 |
| the Museum from releasing the remains and artifacts to a unit |
| 15 |
| of local government for reburial if the Agency determines that |
| 16 |
| the release promotes and complies with the purposes of this |
| 17 |
| Act.
