AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2593

    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2593 by replacing

everything after the enacting clause with the following:

    "Section 5. The State Finance Act is amended by adding 
5
Section
5.640 as follows:

    (30 ILCS 105/5.640  new)
7
    Sec. 5.640. The Traffic Control Signal Preemption Devices 
8
for Ambulances Fund.

    Section 10. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended  by adding 
10
Section 12-601.2 as follows:

    (625 ILCS 5/12-601.2 new)

    Sec. 12-601.2. Traffic control signal preemption devices; 
13
ambulances.

    (a) Any ambulance owned or operated by a municipality with 
15
a population of more than 50,000 must be equipped with a 
16
traffic control signal preemption device  as defined in Section 
17
12-601.1 of this Code, if any other vehicle owned or operated 
18
by the municipality is equipped with one of those devices.

    (b) The Traffic Control Signal Preemption Devices for 
20
Ambulances Fund is created as a special fund in the State 
21
treasury. All moneys in the Traffic Control Signal Preemption 
22
Devices for Ambulances Fund shall, subject to appropriation by

the General Assembly and approval by the Secretary, be paid as 
2
grants to municipalities subject to the requirements of this 
3
Section for the purpose of equipping their ambulances with 
4
traffic control signal preemption devices. The moneys in the 
5
Fund may not be used for any other purpose.

    (c) This Section applies only in a county with a population 
7
of more than 2,000,000.".
