| WHEREAS, Pastor James Curtis Austin, Sr. of Chicago was |
| 3 |
| elevated to the office of Bishop of the district on May 24, |
| 4 |
| 2004 by the Most Honorable Presiding Bishop of the Church of |
| 5 |
| God In Christ, Bishop Gilbert Earl Patterson, of Memphis, |
| 6 |
| Tennessee; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, The elevation to the office of Bishop is the |
| 8 |
| culmination of a life of service and good works, and Bishop |
| 9 |
| Austin exemplifies the highest spiritual and moral standards of |
| 10 |
| the Church; in his role as Bishop, he oversees existing |
| 11 |
| churches, develops new churches, and oversees all |
| 12 |
| jurisdictional ministries in the Chicago area and downstate |
| 13 |
| Illinois; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Since 1978, Bishop Austin has served as the |
| 15 |
| dedicated pastor, spiritual teacher, and uncompromising |
| 16 |
| preacher of St. Luke Church of God in Christ located on the |
| 17 |
| outskirts of the Cabrini Green Community in the inner city of |
| 18 |
| Chicago; he also serves as the President of the Near North |
| 19 |
| Ministry Alliance, a multi-ethnic group of leaders from eight |
| 20 |
| denominations, working together to bring new life to a dying |
| 21 |
| community; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, The amalgamator of For Christ Ministries, Inc., a |
| 23 |
| caring ministry serving Trinidad/Tobago, South Africa, West |
| 24 |
| Africa, East Africa, Jamaica, and Thailand, he has served as |
| 25 |
| Vice-President and liaison to the Olive Branch Missions and |
| 26 |
| Tabitha House, respectively, housing and developing homeless |
| 27 |
| men and women; and
|
| 28 |
| WHEREAS, Bishop Austin is husband of 29 years to Vernesta |
| 29 |
| T. Austin and, together, they are the proud parents of James, |
| 30 |
| Jr., Dorcas, Prisca, and Marcus; therefore, be it
