| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |

| Representatives wish to congratulate Thomas J. Mathes on being |
| 4 |
| named general manager of the award-winning Hotel Burnham |
| 5 |
| Chicago; as general manager, he is responsible for all daily |
| 6 |
| operations, personnel, training and business development for |
| 7 |
| the property; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Having carved a special niche in the luxury |
| 9 |
| hospitality industry, he brings to the position more than seven |
| 10 |
| years of industry experience; he was promoted to the position |
| 11 |
| of general manager after holding a series of top posts at |
| 12 |
| various Kimpton properties in Chicago; most recently, he served |
| 13 |
| as hotel manager at the 483-room Hotel Allegro, where he was |
| 14 |
| responsible for the supervision of daily operations; he also |
| 15 |
| has experience as hotel manager at the 192-room Hotel Monaco |
| 16 |
| Chicago, and was assistant general manager at the Hotel |
| 17 |
| Burnham; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, He also held management positions at hotels |
| 19 |
| including the Midland Hotel and Hotel Sofitel in Chicago, and a |
| 20 |
| trainer position at Red Roof Inns in St. Louis; he started his |
| 21 |
| stellar career in the hospitality industry at the Peabody Hotel |
| 22 |
| in Memphis as a front desk agent; he also served as proprietor |
| 23 |
| of Sterling Entertainment in Memphis and St. Louis; and
|
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, Hotel Burnham Chicago, named after famed city |
| 25 |
| planner and architect Daniel Burnham of D.H. Burnham and Co. |
| 26 |
| who originally designed the building, is located in the city's |
| 27 |
| Theatre District; the boutique-style hotel is one of Chicago's |
| 28 |
| most significant architectural landmarks, occupying the |
| 29 |
| historic 109-year-old former Reliance Building; completed in |
| 30 |
| 1895, the Reliance Building was not only a premier product of |
| 31 |
| "the Chicago style" architecture, it was the first direct |
| 32 |
| predecessor to the modern skyscrapers that are such a large |
